Cleaning Up

Check out the cleared patio!  Now we can walk right up to the house (with extreme caution, of course!) and see what we are dealing with.  Now that we can reach the back of the house, we took down the old toilet that was hanging in the corner.  Our sweet little neighbor, Molly, has been eyeing this toilet forever.  She always checks to see if the toilet is still hanging...well, Molly, not anymore!!  She said that it was okay that we get a new one!

Then, Roger and Rocky assessed the back wall of the house.  There is a ton of pressure on the back corner.  We were concerned that with another heavy rainfall and time, that it would collapse and crush the stone wall.  Preemptively, we took most of the pressure off from the sagging wall.  The method they used was roping key pieces of debris from the house, tying it to the hoe, and pulling it at a safe distance.  This was a long process, because with each tiny little section that they pulled, they had to reassess and figure out which piece should go next.  This is all a huge step towards the big job of cleaning up this site!

Relieving the pressure on the stone walls.

We found some awesome pieces that we saved.  A gorgeous old door with a box-lock.  We also were able to save parts of the main staircase including a piece of the mahogany banister, 2 pine steps, and some of the mahogany spindles.

The spindles I referred to earlier.

In the front of the house, they pulled the dormer into a safer position.  Guess what we found in there?!?!?  Clothes!!  On hangers!!!  I wasn't expecting that, although I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

You can barely see the clothes inside that window.

Then last night, Scott came over to walk the property line.  I was so bummed that I missed the actual walk, but enjoyed catching up with him.  We are so appreciative of Scott's and the township's work and support!!!  Later, when Rocky took me around the Bondsville Rd. property line, I was able to get this awesome picture of the bridge.

I got to go into the kitchen and see the way that it was set up.  It was much bigger than what it appeared in pictures.  Here are some pictures of me by the fireplace, by the sink, and the stove. :)

By the fireplace :)

I ADORE this sink!!

  1. This is absolutley amazing! I love the pictures of you in the kitchen :). Love the soup pot. We'll be there for supper tonite- 6:00 OK? Seeing the cleared patio is so neat!! I didn't realize there were 3 exits onto the patio....I remember riding my tricycle back there :). With that heavy storm this morning, I'm so glad they got the pressure off the walls yesterday. I am so tech un-savy, that I cannot figure out how to leave comments as anyone other than "anonymous", but I'm sure you know it's me!

  2. WOW! So much progress is being made. I love that you were able to save some of the old pieces of the house. Those will look amazing in the finished produced. So cool you were able to go inside and check out the kitchen. It does look pretty big. LOVE, LOVE, love the picture of the bridge. I could see it framed and hanging on a wall someday :)
