August 11

Today we had our first birthday sign hung on the barn in honor of Anne's birthday.  When asked what she wanted to do for her special day, Anne replied, "Go over to Hearthstone and split wood." She is too awesome!  So after a yummy picnic lunch of hoagies, we got to work!  Anne and Pete taught me how to use their log splitter.  We sure do have a TON of logs to split!

Matt, Rocky, and Roger worked on digging out the old hand-dug well on the patio.  We had heard stories that past renters had previously accessed this well, therefore we were unsure of what we would find and how much weight it could hold.  We found out today!!    They re-secured the well and safely covered it up.  It looks like some scary well out of a Disney movie!  It's exactly like the old pictures that you see in fairy tales.

The well.

All fixed :)

The guys took out the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and laundry room sink today.  I forgot to take a picture of those...I'll try to remember for tomorrow.  Dad and Dianne came over to check it all out this afternoon...Happy Birthday Dad!!!   Matt was a HUGE help to Roge and Rocky in officially starting the barn work!  They got the whole back left cleared out of rotted wood.  The dust particles were flying.  The picture is kind of blurry, but you can get a good idea of how it was going.    Thanks guys for all your hard work!  The next step is to "secure timbers"....I'll get right on that!!!

Cleaning the rotted wood out to secure the barn.

Uncle and Laura on the backhoe.

Dawn, Jane, and Mary on the back patio.

  1. Brey, Roger and Rocky,Mary,

Brey, thank you for the Blog, I have enjoyed it immensely.
It's wonderful to see the start of the new 'Hearthstone' !
It keeps coming to mind that the old dead tree cut down on the southeast corner of the house may have been a Sycamore, rather than a maple. I could be wrong, and we'll have to dig up an old picture of that area to see.
So many beautiful memories of growing up there, keep up the great Blog!
