Winter.Stinks.2014.

I'm terrible…yes, I am.  I have not updated this blog in forever.  My sincere apologies.  My measly excuses include stressful work situations and grad school (ugh….seriously, when will I be done, already?.  Hmmm…and I guess you can add trying to shovel us out every other day!  I used to treasure snow days.  No longer.  Presently, a "snow day", equates with a "real work day that involves significant manual labor".  I have been itching to update you all on the upstairs, wedding details, and winter clean up.  As I was sorting through pictures, I realized that I would be amiss if I didn't include the damage that Winter 2014 bestowed upon us.  We have lost electricity too many times to count.  Two times this year, our electrical and cable lines were sliced literally in half from the frozen pine branches.  I have to tell you that I have never been so scared in my life.  It was like a scene from Lord of the Rings with angry trees hurling their heavily iced branches at us.  It felt like an attack.  It was terrible.  Thankfully, I am able to post these saying that our roof stayed in tact.  Praise the Lord.  You all have a personal invitation to joining us in celebrating spring and the sun any time you have available….we will be cleaning up and working.  Miss you all.  Winter sucks.  Xoxo…B

2nd Floor Step 1: Reinforce Roof

We are excited to announce that Work on the second floor of the garage has officially begun!!  Plans have been made to reinforce, insulate, and replace the floors upstairs. The replacement staircase have been designed and we are in work mode during this last week of 2013!  After measuring, the boys went and got lumber to reinforce the existing roofline. This will help protect the roof from snow loads. We were pleased to find that with all of the snow and rain that it is still dry upstairs. My job included -trying to- pull out nails out of the wood with my handy hammer (2nd time I used it!). This was harder than I thought!  Therefore, I settled with the cleaning crew role of collecting the nails that they took out. Next, we will need to insulate the roof. Right now, it's pretty drafty. Last fall we had to remove all the old layers of insulation--grossest job ever! This year we will add fresh insulation to keep the loft area warm and toasty!  Here are some pictures.
